New Board of Trustees ushers in IBON's 35th year

IBON NEWS | 3 March 2013 | Founded in 1978, IBON will commemorate its anniversary with the special publication of researches and forum series on key economic issues and on pro-people economic alternatives.

Research institution IBON Foundation marks its 35th anniversary this year, with a newly-appointed Board of Trustees leading in the year-long celebration. The Foundation recently held its annual general assembly where the Board presented the institution’s general plans for 2013.

The new IBON Foundation Board of Trustees was appointed last year and will serve a two-year term. The Board is composed of the following: Prof Judy Taguiwalo, Board chairperson; Bishop Solito Toquero, vice-chair; Prof Roland Simbulan, secretary; Mr Reynaldo Oliveros, treasurer; and trustees Fr Pedro Arguillas, Prof Neil Doloricon, Prof Francis Gealogo, Ms Rosario Guzman, Ms Jazminda Lumang, Mr Antonio Tujan, Prof Ed Villegas, Sr Emelina Villegas, and Atty Anthony Charlemagne Yu. The Board appointed Mr Jose Enrique Africa as the new IBON executive director.

Before his appointment, Mr Africa served as IBON’s research head and member of the Executive Committee. Mr Africa obtained his Masters degree (MSc) in Development Studies and Bachelors degree (BSc) in Philosophy and Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). His research and writings on socioeconomic and political issues have been published locally and internationally.

Mr Africa replaces Ms Jazminda Lumang, who completed her six-year term in 2012 and has been appointed as head of the IBON Partnership for Education and Development (IPED).

Founded in 1978, IBON will commemorate its anniversary with the special publication of researches and forum series on key economic issues and on pro-people economic alternatives. It will also launch activities to commemorate Andres Bonifacio’s 150th birth anniversary and promote economic reforms consistent with the Filipino hero’s aspirations.

According to Mr Africa, as in the last 35 years, IBON will continue to work closely with people’s organizations and various sectors, and provide research and analysis from a progressive and pro-people perspective. (end)

Bagong Board of Trustees sa ika-35 taon ng IBON

Minarkahan ng institusyong panaliksik na IBON Foundation ang ika-35 anibersaryo nito sa pagtalaga ng mga bagong-hirang na kasapi sa Board of Trustees na mangunguna sa isang-taong pagdiriwang. Inilunsad kumakailan ng Foundation ang taunang general assembly kung saan ihinapag ng Board ang mga plano ng institusyon para sa 2013.

Nahirang ang bagong Board of Trustees ng IBON Foundation na maglilingkod sa terminong dalawang taon. Ang Board ay binubuo ng sumusunod: Prof. Judy Taguiwalo, Board chairperson; Bishop Solito Toquero, vice chairperson; Prof. Roland Simbulan, secretary; Mr. Reynaldo Oliveros, treasurer; at mga trustee -- Fr. Pedro Arguillas, Prof. Neil Doloricon, Prof. Francis Gealogo, Ms. Rosario Guzman, Ms. Jazminda Lumang, Mr. Antonio Tujan, Prof. Ed Villegas, Sr. Emelina Villegas, at Atty. Anthony Charlemagne Yu. Itinalagang Board si Mr. Jose Enrique Africa bilang bagong IBON Executive Director.

Bago siya mahirang, nagsilbing research head ng IBON si Mr. Africa at myembro ng Executive Committee. Nailimbag na kapwa sa loob at labas ng bansa ang kanyang mga pananaliksik at sulatin tungkol sa mga isyung sosyo-ekonomiks at pulitika.

Pinalitan ni Mr. Africa si Ms. Jazminda Lumang. Natapos ni Ms. Lumang ang kanyang anim-na-taong termino noong 2012 at nahirang naman bilang bagong pinuno ng IBON Partnership for Education and Development (IPED).

Gugunitain ng IBON ang anibersaryo nito sa pamamagitan ng mga espesyal na publikasyon ng mga pananaliksik at seryeng porum sa mga susing isyung pang-ekonomiya at mga alternatibang pang-ekonomiyang makamamamayan. Ilulunsad rin nito ang mga aktibidad na gugunita sa ika-150 anibersaryo ng kapanganakan ni Andres Bonifacio. Palalaganapin nito ang mga makabayang kaisipan at repormang pang-ekonomiya na tugma sa mga mithiin ng naturang bayaning Pilipino.

Ayon kay Mr. Africa, gaya ng sa nakaraang 35 taon, mananatili ang IBON sa pakikipagtulungan sa mga organisasyon ng mamamayan at iba't ibang sektor. Patuloy itong magbabahagi ng pananaliksik at pagsusuri sa perspektibang progresibo at makamamamayan.#
